 is a unique amino acid found almost exclusively in the tea plant (Camellia sinensis) and is the primary ingredient contributing to the unusual taste of green tea. Animal studies have shown that l-theanine crosses the blood brain barrier, increases dopamine and GABA levels in the brain, and inhibits the stimulatory properties of caffeine. Human studies have shown that taking l-theanine results in the emission of brain waves associated with a state of relaxation.

    I found this remedy when I searched for some help to my mother who offen worried a lot when she went to sleep. But for my mother it helped not only to relax more when she was to sleep, but it helped her with her daily depression-liked feelings. She has so much help from L-Theanine, is feeling more comfortable, more in balance. Without it, she offen get angry and sad with no reason. And she have no bad side effects when she takes L-Theanine.
    I by myself has a permanent depression and got antidepressiv medicin. But it was not helping good enough and after trying different sort of antidepressiv with a lot of side effects, I worried if I should have more, it maybe will get side effects Again. Then I asked my psychiatrist if I could try L-Theanine as a supplement. He read about it and tell that it Works on serotonine, stress, dopamine etc. and looks ok to try.
    I did not get as big effect as my mother, but I think my days are become better after starting with L-Theanine as supplement to my medicin and I have no side effects of it. Of course you must talk to your doctor or psychiatrist what is good for you, if you have a diagnosed depression. But I think if you are in the lighter end of depression, it is a possibility to try L-Theanine by yourself.
